The Glasshouse, Ullswater

The Victorian-style Glasshouse is one of our favourite places to eat. It serves great authentic Italian pizzas. Located near the lakeshore and close to the vegetable and herb garden, it has an outside terrace and views of the lake.

The Brackenrigg Inn, Ullswater

This is part of the hotel Another Place and is really cosy with lots of books and games. The views of Ullswater and the eastern fells are special. The staff are fantastic and the kid's portion of their Sunday lunch is great value!

Helvellyn Kitchen, Glenridding

Situated in the heart of Glenridding, this lovely cafe owned and run by a local couple is a great place for a breakfast or lunch. They also serve evening dinner at the weekends and often have themed evenings.

Punchbowl Inn, Askham

This is a great traditional pub often with a roaring fire. We like to visit for a drink as we consider it 'our local' and is a real community pub. Serves food every day and is nice to sit out on a sunny day.

Grant’s of Castlegate, Penrith

This is a modern British bistro and bar with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We have eaten here with friends and the food and service is great.  They also host occasional bottomless Afternoon Teas at the weekend.

This is a special pub just 10 minutes from the Barn. It has a cosy bar area as well as a restaurant serving lunches and dinners. The food is more high end than your usual pub grub and the service is great.

Just a couple of minutes’ drive from the Barn, the seasonal menu is inspired by the produce grown in the estate’s gardens and fields. Dinner is available Tuesday to Sunday and is served in the form of a six-course tasting menu.

Four and Twenty – Penrith

This is a casual, bistro style restaurant which has an excellent reputation with the locals. Their food is flavourful and unfussy drawing on seasonal British and European cooking. They also have a wide selection of wines and cocktails. Open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.

La Casita – Penrith

Great atmosphere together with an authentic Spanish experience. This restaurant and tapas bar serves great Spanish cuisine. We enjoy popping in here after visiting the many festivals and events in Penrith. Open Tuesday to Sunday evenings.

Foundry 34 – Penrith

A family run bar and restaurant offering meals 7 days a week including takeaway services. They often have live entertainment and bottomless lunches at the weekend.

1863 Restaurant – Pooley Bridge

At this Michelin-recommended restaurant, stainability is at the heart of their ethos. Meat, fish, fruit and vegetables are sourced from northern farmers and producers and many products are foraged. Lunch and dinner menus are offered as three, five or seven courses. Open Thursday to Monday.
